About Us

A life of projects, people, and places we love

Hi, I’m Sima — linguist, writer, and translator (English ↔ Persian). I have a BA and MA in Linguistics from Simon Fraser University and a PhD in Translation Studies from the University of Ottawa — which, in North America, is really just a fancy way of saying I spent six years poking, prodding, and picking apart translations until they coughed up all the skewing, manipulations, and censored hiccups… or shone by faithfully reflecting the spirit of the original story.

And yes — every word I just used there (faithful, spirit, original) is controversial. Entire books have been written for or against each one.

Oh, and I write auto-fiction. Sneak peeks from my work-in-progress are on the way — watch this space.

Arnold studied architecture in Switzerland, went on to own and manage his own companies, and later received an honorary PhD from Memorial University in St. John’s, Newfoundland. He’s done a lot more than I can list here — in business, charity, and philanthropy — including founding and funding Canada’s Arctic Inspiration Prize, which supports transformative projects led by the people of the North.
